The Power of the Resurrection

Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. Matthew 28:5-6 NLT

Today, many in the world want to remove the supernatural elements from Easter. They want to make it nothing but a cultural holiday…a time for parties and dinners, games and lighthearted fun…a day of special wardrobes and ceremonies…or even a season of sales and shopping.

For the Christian, however, this day is the ultimate expression of God’s supernatural intervention in human history. On this day, the impossible became possible, and Jesus was raised from the dead!

Jesus resurrection was a complete surprise even to His own disciples. They were mystified by reports of the Resurrection, and their initial reaction was fear. Could it possibly be true? And what could it mean?

When Jesus rose from the grave, He unleashed spiritual dynamite. His death and Resurrection destroyed the hold of Satan, gave us unquenchable hope, and shattered the barriers separating us from God.

The Resurrection was so important to Paul that he wrote: If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins (1 Corinthians 15:17). He prayed that we might know the power of His resurrection (Philippians 3:10), and he encouraged us: If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you (Romans 8:11).

That same power is available to you today! God can give life to your mortal body. He can give you health and power. Wisdom and resources. Breakthroughs that seem impossible!

Celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. Like the disciples, marvel at this overwhelming miracle. But also remember that He still performs miracles today! His Resurrection power is real. For anyone…for you! Jesus has risen, and if God can raise the dead, He can do anything!
